If you got rear ended, you should report this to your insurance and let them deal with damages. IT's most likely either the open/closed sensor that's broken or the latch itself is no longer latching properly. Either way, you shouldn't have to deal with this since someone else hit you.

When you recharged the A/C, did it at all help? If the recharge did make the A/C air cold but then it turned warm after a bit, there is probably a leak somewhere in the system. If the recharge did nothing at all, I'd assume it's your compressor that isn't working.
