The plastic will soften up to the shape of the flat mating surface of the pan as you apply the proper torque to the oil pan drain plug bolt. The problem with rubber is that the heat will deteriorate, whereas plastic is less susceptible to that.

My girl starts it normally and it still does it. Fishy, it's all done by PCM so an aftermarket starter shouldn't eliminate the feature. PCM keeps the relay active until it determines that the engine is running.

As far as filling it up goes ... yeah ... things can get in while that is happening, but I make sure that I'm only filling when no wind is blowing, and even if it is, I can shield it with my body :-D. When you're under the car, you can't get to the cap quick enough.

I'm pretty certain you can. Just make sure the fob came from your year, as sometimes they change between years. Check the manual, sometimes they will have a learn procedure in there for keyless entry fobs.

That is where your turn signal fuse will be. It is hidden underneath the panel to the lower left of the steering wheel. You may be able to see it if you look up from the footwell. If you can't reach any of the fuses, then you will have to remove the panel that covers it to access them.
