Another place to check would be the switch itself.

Check the terminals for corrosion, and see if the connector is lose or worn, or if the wiring is shot out. If you move the wires around and that causes the signal to turn on and off, then you probably need to splice in a new connector.

Tensioner won't be too bad to replace if you know what you are doing, but if the chain holds tension, leave it be (I believe on your engine, it is located at the back of the engine block on the timing chain cover).

Don't do that until you get a multimeter on it. If you buy the injector and it still doesn't work, that is going to be an expensive way to find out that there is no voltage at the connector.

Do you happen to have steel wheels with the plastic hub caps? If so, pull the plastic hub caps off and see if that eliminates the squeak. My 2008 Matrix base did the same thing and I traced it to the hub caps.
