Why did you do that? Usually if air is rushing out of the oil cap, it is a sign of high crankcase pressure, usually caused from a plugged PCV valve or a hole in the piston. If the engine is running fine, replace the PCV valve.

How did you check the fluid level? Did you do it with the engine running after cycling the transmission from R to N to D to N to R three times, and give each gear time to fully engage?

Personally, I would change the connector out and solder in a new one. Rockauto.com usually carries these in stock for cheap. As John stated, make sure the terminals are clean and free of corrosion or build-up from contaminants.
