2010 Corolla - How to Remove a Drum Wheel Stud

I agree with Fish, they aren't that bad once you've done it once or twice. Drum brakes are more complex than discs but they also seem to last longer (especially in the rear). I was intimidated by them too until a few years ago when I picked-up an old Ford Ranchero with stock four-wheel drums...

2010 Corolla - How to Remove a Drum Wheel Stud

Drum brakes have their benefits, namely they help (slightly) with fuel economy since when their not applied (and are adjusted correctly) there is no drag from the brake shoes whereas disc brakes are always (slightly) in contact with the brake rotor so there is always some drag (granted not...

    First Oil Change

Ditto, on my car the canister is on so tight that the filter cap just slides over the ridges. It's going to go in next week to our mechanic at work to have the filter removed. Previous to me my Corolla was serviced by Pep Boys and they over-tightened everything they touched! Kevin

What Parts Did You Relocate on Your 2ZZGE Swap?

DK, you're right. I know that but a lot of other people seem not to, and some of their rides are on CL for cheap  Kevin

What Parts Did You Relocate on Your 2ZZGE Swap?

And if you live in an area with smog laws/controls that can also be a hassle to do it in such a way that'll it still pass smog so it can be registered. Recently I've been sort of looking for an old Supra to play with and have found a lot of Supra's with engine swaps for cheap on CL in my area...

    Possible Fuel Pump/Glitch Problem???

I agree, normal. Some people refer to it as the car 'farting' but those are also the same people who tend to name their cars  Kevin

LOL Mine knows better. Although I recently relaxed my no eating on road trip rule, at least for now  Kevin

    Detailed and Done!

Looks great DK! My Corolla is lucky if it gets to go to my local hand car wash once a month! I did have to clean the interior of my Corolla very well when I first got it since the person who drove it before me had a penchant for spilling coffee and wearing clothes with glitter in/on them. That...

2000 Corolla - Will Not Start

It's time to borrow a compression gauge and a fuel-pressure gauge to see what's really going-on. Most parts stores will have those items available for lend or rent. Also if your MAF has been destroyed it won't run until that's been replaced. Kevin

2000 Corolla - Will Not Start

Sounds like you've been using a lot of starting fluid on it! Check the compression with a gauge, it'll be a lot more accurate than your finger. Check the FSM to make sure the cams are aligned properly. Kevin

    Windshield Wiper Replacement

I generally wait until after the first good rain to buy new blades. I figure that way everyone who needs them will run out and buy-up all the old stock which have been sitting on the shelf all summer long. Not sure if it makes a difference though  FWIW I'm a fan of Bosch blades...

    Corolla Road Trip

I agree DK, 395 is one of my favorite drives but it's loaded with CHP. I get it though, there are a lot of horrific, deadly crashes out there, especially on the stretch between Randsburg and Adelanto. It really needs to be four-lanes, at least to Ridgecrest. It would make it a lot safer. Kevin

    2007 LE With 215k Miles

I'd pass. It's not as if these are rare cars. Look around and for the same $$ you should be able to find something with a lot fewer miles in as good if not better condition. Kevin

    Corolla Road Trip

Scott, I've never been much a fan of radar detectors, though I've never used one. Most of the time I'm within 5-10MPH of the limit. Plus in the open portion of my state a lot of the patrolling (and ticketing) is done by air. If you know where to look and are paying attention you can normally...

    Corolla Road Trip

Do you think that would work? For the record it was mainly in the open desert where I ran that speed. And even at that speed I was getting passed like I was going 60 ;) Kevin

Jiffy Lube Caught Again! Do You Trust Quick Lube Operations?

I agree. I always do my own oil changes. Gives me a good chance to take a look around underneath and see how everything else looks. My cars only go to the dealer if there is a recall. Kevin

    Corolla Road Trip

Not counting my two air-cooled VW's my Corolla is the only four-cylinder vehicle I own. Typically I take long trips in my Silverado which is a great truck for road trips (comfy seats, a stereo which will start earthquakes and it'll tow anything I drop onto it's bumper) and since most of my road...

    Corolla Road Trip

So for the first time since I've owned it (three years, though a relative was driving it for most of that time until last month) I took a trip in my Corolla for a work/pleasure trip to Las Vegas with a friend. Here are a few things I learned:  1) The stock radio will pick-up AM talk radio...

    2009 Corolla Steering Issues

I hate to correct you but I'm a licened Electrician, twisted wires on their own won't cause a short, but tight, twisted wires will. Happens in cars too. To the original poster, check any and all wires leading to or in the area of the steering shaft and rack. Make sure all connectors are tight...

Is Jumpstarting With a 2015 Corolla Ok

As others have said if done properly there is no reason why you can't jump start a car with a Corolla, regardless of year, I recently used a rented '12 Corolla to jump an '03 Corolla. I carry cables in all my cars though when I asked I rarely use them, just too much risk of damage on a modern...
