Air Rushing Out From Oil Filler Hole

I guess it depends on the engine, I pulled the cap off a V6 Toyota motor once while it was running and the motor stalled. Wouldn't idle until the cap was back in-place. I'm thinking it had something to do with vacuum but never pursued it. Kevin

    Who the hell...

Sadly this seems to be a trend. The PCV on the V6 in my '98 Isuzu Amigo is also under the intake manifold. Mine got changed last spring when I had the heads off of it. Pretty sure it had never been changed before. I'm not planning on changing the one on my Corolla anytime soon. Kevin

    2007 Corolla LE

Just a curiosity question here but do Corolla's not use an external oil cooler? I know my '93 T100 and my ex's '99 4Runner both external oil coolers, although both of those trucks have V6 engines. I'm planning on having my Corolla on a rack later today, when it is I'll look around and see if...

Using Lucas Oil Stabilizer and Engine Restore Together

I'm a fan of Lucas oil though I haven't used any of their additives (and doubt that I ever would, but that's just a personal choice on my part). I also like that Lucas is an active supporter of just about anything with wheels and a motor  Kevin

Do I Really NEED This Part?

Or buy a new coil complete, install it and keep the other one for a spare. Kevin

2010 Corolla - Oil Change Frequency

FWIW The manual calls for a 2010 Corolla to use synthetic oil. And the 'Maint Req'd' light will come-on every 5K miles regardless of how you drive it. I generally stick with the 5K mile rule in my Corolla but mine see's a lot of city driving. If you do a lot of highway driving stretching it...

    Dash Cam Installed Finally!

This thread reminds me that I have a dash cam sitting in the box ready to put into my work truck. May need to move doing that farther up the 'to do' list. I'm teaching a friends teenage daughter to drive and am trying to get her used to looking in her rear view whenever she steps on the...

    2002 Corolla NOT Consuming Oil

Scott, thanks I may drop it down to 10/30 the next time I change it, it's just been my experience that older motors which tend to burn oil, tend to burn it less with the thicker oil. I have nothing scientific to prove that, just been my experience. That and I run it in four other cars and had...

    2002 Corolla NOT Consuming Oil

I think it's too subjective as there may have been minor changes internally to the engine (such as a difference in oil drain holes in the pistons year-to-year). Besides that oil consumption can depend on how an engine was treated in it's early miles. I will say this, my girl drives an '03...

What Speed Do You Like To Drive?

5-10 over the limit depending on what I'm driving and where I'm driving. Quick story about speedometers: I have an Uncle who is very straight-laced and drives close to the posted speed limit religiously. Last Thanksgiving we traded cars (it's a long story) he and his family drove my crew-cab...

    Seat Covers

Make sure you get something which is compatible with the side-impact air bags in your seats. Most seat covers may impede their operation if their needed. Kevin

    Where's My Spare Tire

I agree, even a donut spare is better than nothing and a compressor and Slime is next to nothing IMHO. Kevin

2010 Corolla - How to Remove a Drum Wheel Stud

I agree, the correct tools make everything go easier! I used to resist buying specialty tools but now have a small tool chest full of them. Some I bought, others I made. None of them get used a lot but when I need them it's nice to have them. Kevin

1999 Corolla - Leak in The Exhuast Manifold Gasket Cause One Cylinder to Misfire?

I'm betting blown head gasket or a cracked head. I've seen cracked heads behave this same way. A compression test should tell you what you need to know. Most DIY Auto parts places will lend (or rent) you a tester. Kevin

Why Did You Buy A Toyota Corolla?

It fell into my lap  I have my Corolla because the family member I bought it for two years ago could no longer make the payments on it  Eventually it'll probably go away in favor of something else which can tow or go off-road but for now it's nice to have around. The gas...

    Considering a Project - Questions!

We don't have a lot of rust issues here in So.Cal. either but I'm currently knee-deep in replacing a couple of panels on a '60 Ranchero which rusted (and were poorly repaired in the past). This is on a car (truck?) which has never left So.Cal. Some cars just rust-out easier than others. Some...

    Considering a Project - Questions!

I'm a sucker for hard-luck car projects too! The bigger issue for me would be is there any rust? For me that's almost always a deal-breaker for me. Kevin

Thinking of Getting a 2006 Corolla

They're not very hard cars to work on, even for a novice I doubt it would take much longer than an hour to make that repair. :) Kevin
