    Identifying Component On Steering Column

This is just a guess but it could be for an electric steering wheel lock. Kevin

2010 Corolla - Antenna Cable Question

DK That's what I was thinking too, although I wasn't sure if this is a coax-type cable (like a typical radio antenna) or not. I already identified the cable coming-down from the roof, it seems to run to an un-used connector with other un-used wires in the trunk. This will be a permanent...

2010 Corolla - Antenna Cable Question

Hi all, so from what I've read the small, lump on the roof of a 2010 Corolla is an antenna for Satellite radio. I have a portable Satellite reciever which connects to the stereo via the Aux port so what I'd like to do is use the existing satellite antenna on the roof. I know I'll need to make...

2010 Corolla S Trunk Release Latch

That worked for me too, although now I need to find a way to make the cable for the fuel door tighter as it just barely opens the door. The last time I bought gas I'd pull up on the release and the door would open a small bit. I'd let go and walk towards the door and it would re-latch. This...

1.8 Exclusive CVT - Idle RPM Question

Would his elevation have anything to do with the idle? Kevin

    Silly Corolla Modifications

So living here in So.Cal. I'm used to seeing my fair share of customized vehicles (a couple of which live in my driveway but I digress). Lifted trucks (guilty) slammed cars, custom paint, window tints, odd-sized wheels (me) and patina (seriously, just paint your car, you're fooling no one). So...

1994 Corolla - Shift Lever Stuck and No Brake Lights

More than likely all you need to do is to replace your brake light switch. That should take care of both of your problems. Kevin

    2009 - Should I Change the Oil?

DK I'll bet that sucked! I generally try to avoid mud like the plague, just too hard to clean and it gets into everything! Thankfully I doubt my Corolla will ever see anything less paved than a gravel parking lot. Although a month ago I was out with a friend in my Corolla when there was a...

    Sensor?

Based on the second pic I'm thinking it's some sort of temperature sensor, perhaps to tell the HVAC system what the temperature inside the car is (which would likely be more stable under the dash). Either that or your cars came equipped with an on-board Breathalizer option  Kevin

2001 Corolla - Clinder Misfire, Catalyst System Failure, ECAP

This seems to be a fairly common problem on a lot of modern cars. The way I've checked in the past is to swap the suspect coil with another cylinder and see if the problem follows to the new cylinder. Most of the time each cylinder has it's own coil or shares one coil with two cylinders. Kevin

2012 Corolla - Oil Change Decreased MPG

I doubt the change in MPG is related to the recent oil change, my guess would be a low tire. I've found the TPMS in my Corolla leaves a bit to be desired. If the tire pressures all check-out reach-down and feel each of the wheels after a drive at highway speeds. If one wheel is significantly...

    2009 - Should I Change the Oil?

I'm an avid off-roader so I too have made many repairs in the dirt. It's definitely not an ideal environment. Saturday I thought I was going to have to lay in the dirt and remove the front driveshaft from my 4wd because it was stuck in 4wd. At least it was dirt and not mud  Kevin

    Starter Sometimes Grinds

I was going to ask the same thing, my 2010 Corolla doesn't seem to have that but I've never tried it either; I'm old-school and just hold the key until it starts. My work truck does have an auto-start feature but for the first year or so I drove it I still held the key like always. I've gotten...

Should I Change Belt, Waterpump and Thermostat Before Long Drive?

Ditto what DK said. In addition check the tires. If it was stored for those seven years outside those tires may not be up to such a long trip. A couple of years ago a friend bought an '03 Corolla which sat for a year in a closed garage and the tires were all nearly flat. Thankfully other...

    2014 Corolla - Orange Peel

It always pays to do your homework. I had a bad experience with the service department at my local Toyota dealer about 10 years ago. So the last two Toyota's I've bought (an '04 Tacoma and my Corolla) were both bought at Toyota dealers which were not that one. In fact the one where I bought...

    Full Transmission Check

Personally I'd be leary of any shop which told me Toyota ATF wasn't any good. Toyota's have some problem areas but I rarely hear of a trans failing in any Toyota models. As far as what ATF to use, that's your choice obviously. Personally I'm getting ready to give Amsoil engine oil a try in my...

What Size Oil Filter Wrench? '10 Corolla

I get that, I once re-routed a family vacation so I could stop-in and buy some things which I didn't want to have shipped  I've been a fan of theirs for years. Kevin
