new to forum and bought a 12 Corolla 21july12

Opposite of the Prius??? It's exactly the same: From a stop, start out and gradually build up speed; and when coming to a red light or stop sign, apply the breaks gently and give yourself plenty of time to stop. In other words, baby your 'Rolla, and you will receive high mpg numbers.

new to forum and bought a 12 Corolla 21july12

I have an '09 S, and if you want to get 30+ mpg in the city and over 40 mpg highway, all you gotta do is start slowly from a stop, and gradually come to a stop. But when you gotta get on it, the Corolla is quite capable of getting out of its own way. You're gonna love it!

How Do I Change the Door Locks Not to Unlock When Going Into Park?

On page 41 of my 2009 Corolla manual, it lists 4 different lock sequence options--one of which locks the doors when the car is taken out of park, and keeps them locked when the car is put back into park. The procedure to program that option (non-smart key) is: 1) Get in, close all doors, and...

    2012 Corolla Paint Issue?

Seems the silver, sandstone, and magnetic gray paints are the troublemakers. Also, the new plant in Mississippi is a contibutor or main source of the problem. Toyotas are made in the USA now, which only adds to the problems owners of those cars continue to experience. My advice? Trade it in on a...

    2012 Corolla Paint Issue?

I knew it! Mississippi! This reminds me of trouble a Yaris owner is experiencing. He bought a new Yaris, and not long afterward, the paint began peeling off the front of it. The dealer refused to help, and when Toyota reps looked at it, they accused the owner of replacing the entire front end...

    2012 Corolla Paint Issue?

Your dealer is screwing with you, and doubt you will have any luck whatsoever in making them repair what is obviously a paint application issue. Poor primer is the culprit, I'll bet. If no other dealer will help you, you're going to have to bring this to the attention of Toyota USA. By the way...

    0W-20 Oil

Wonder if the engine troubles from 2003+ were a result of Toyota's attempts to increase CAFE performance with the 0-weight oils? One of the culprits was the oil return holes in the pistons being too small/poorly machined, causing oil to back up in the cylinder heads and congeal (or something...

    Low MPG (20 MPG)

Switch petrol stations, fill 'er up like Ted said, and along with the computer readings, old-school it with pencil and paper. Once you've gone through a tankful, choose a different brand of petrol, and do the test again. If, after that, your readings remain at a combined 20 mpg (average is...

    0W-20 Oil

Written data trumps oral data. If what you want to know is written in a manual, that information overrides spoken information. When the manual says to do X at interval Y, then do X at interval Y. When technicians don't do X at interval Y, then it's time to seek the services of other...

Bike Rack Scratch :( Touch Up Paint Possible?

Here is a story, and you can decide what route you'd like to take: The first year we had our '09 (purchased Oct, '08), an inconsiderate, lowlife MORON dented our right-rear door with their white door (white paint left behind). Thinking it was a major scratch, we took it to a paint shop for an...

Bike Rack Scratch :( Touch Up Paint Possible?

Take it to a paint shop. Have heard of a method whereby many thin layers of paint are applied into scratches to fill them. Those scratches are too big and numerous to handle yourself.

    New Corolla

Have an '09 S, and wouldn't get a '12 model due to the fact I couldn't get all the goodies on the '12 that I have now: A leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-on headlights, rear-seat HVAC ducts, and those uber-cool center-stack side pockets. All that stuff is gone in the '12s! But as a car, I...

2011 Toyota Corolla Deccelerating/Accelerating/Idle Issue Resolved

The shim deal came about as a field repair for the sticky throttle issue, brought about by its manufacturer's use of out-of-spec materials. The shim was to give clearance, and to separate the surfaces which tended to stick together. Sounds like a real winner, huh? The trimming was supposed to...

2011 Toyota Corolla Deccelerating/Accelerating/Idle Issue Resolved

Yeah, I dig it. First, Toyota wanted to shim my pedal; then, they wanted to trim it. I said no. Fortunately, a person at my dealer procured the redesigned pedal for me, and I couldn't be happier about it. But isn't it sad that being treated properly is such a crap shoot?

2011 Toyota Corolla Deccelerating/Accelerating/Idle Issue Resolved

"Liability language". Good stuff! A year or so ago, when I was on Facebook (what was I thinking?), I suggested the same to people with what sounded like very serious problems which were being pooh-poohed by their dealers. The editors of Toyota's Facebook page didn't like it that someone...

    2012 S Intake

Probably. Best bet would be to call the manufacturer of the intake in which you're interested, and get their specifications. Could be that the '12s are so new that manufacturers have yet to list their products for them.
