    Engine Swap

I didn't tell him to get a V8, i told him he'd be better off financially if he went that route. My first suggestions was a turbo kit or nitrous. The point of a forum is to get opinions you haven't considered. I think I was polite and fair to the OP. I didn't insult him or criticize his...

    Engine Swap

He's not obligated to take my advice, but making a corolla "fast" is going to be expensive, decrease its reliability, increase his maintenance costs, hurt economy, and it still won't be all that fast compared to other cars on the road that cost the same or less. This guy is talking about...

    Engine Swap

Exactly. Sell corolla, buy something with a V8 and tons of aftermarket support... any 5.0 mustang or 5.7 GM model will be cheap to buy and much easier to find information and performance parts. his 2014 Corolla should bring $10k-$14k if he sells it. Taht will buy a 2003-2008 corolla and a...

    Engine Swap

define "lots" of power. Toyota put the 2.4 liter Camry/Scion TC engine in the Corolla XRS for several years. It's got more torque, but I wouldn't call it "powerful" by any stretch. IMHO, if you're serious about sinking money into adding power, find a good turbo kit. Nitrous is cheaper, but...

    Buying a corolla

What trim level? I noticed mine doesn't have power windows, but I did not notice the lack of cruise control. I paid $5500 for a 2003 with 83k miles and crap tires. The one you're looking at sounds like a pretty reasonable deal, considering it's from a dealership. Take it to your own...

Does the "S" have different tires than the other models? I know the larger wheels are an option.

    2015 Corolla - Towing a Small Trailer

The risk of jackknifing is there with ANY vehicle though. Whether I'm towing with my corolla or my wife's Sorento (rated to tow 5,000 lbs.), my small trailer doesn't have trailer brakes in either scenario. If you slam on the brakes in either vehicle, the trailer may try to come around the tow...

Rope on tires for heavy snow

Carpet remnants will work as well or better. I have debated snow tires for my corolla, but haven't pulled the trigger... I feel like the second I spend that much on the car, it's going to have a catastrophic failure and the tires will be a waste of money :P I don't know where you live, but...

    2015 Corolla - Towing a Small Trailer

My biggest question for those who are in the know with automatic transmissions is "how much weight really requires a transmission cooler?" I can't foresee myself ever towing even HALF the 1500 lbs. rating, and I only lock out overdrive on inclines...

    2015 Corolla - Towing a Small Trailer

the only way to really know is to force an actual failure... The "simplest" failure would be bending the sheet-metal floor of the trunk, assuming that is where the hitch would attach. On the older model corollas, I believe you're bolting into more robust bumper mounts. The transmission...

    2015 Corolla - Towing a Small Trailer

it's because those automakers all sell SUVs and trucks that they want you to buy if you're going to tow. I put another 300 miles on the 'rolla towing my open trailer and 1.75 dirt bikes (the .75 is a frame, engine, and seat... front wheel and forks were in my trunk). No issues. I'll say it...

    Tranny cooler lines

subscribed. I have to install a trans cooler on mine as well. Same generation... (same drivetrain anyway) I would guess your gut is correct, but confirmation never hurts.

    soooo boring....

35 mpg is the EPA figure, so you'll get that with the AC off and cruising on flat ground at 55mph... Plus I wouldn't be surprised if they want you to use 92 octane or better with that turbo. 35 mpg isn't that great when you're paying $.20 more per gallon.

How Many Miles Do You Have?

my last post was 11/9/15, and I had 123,000 miles at that point. I'll turn 142,000 on the way home tonight. 19,000 miles in 9 months. Right at 2100/month figure I had forecast. We bought a 2016 Kia Sorento for family duty, so the corolla has to last another 100,000 miles or so now. I refuse...

    Rally Rolla?

I actually started to look into this, kind of as a joke. A friend of mine in Washington state is rallycrossing her WRX. She won an event, and I asked if there was a FWD class. There are 3 FWD classes. I am sure you could go out and have a blast on a totally stock car, so long as you didn't...

    rear spoiler

I guess I look at this from a different perspective, owning a 2003 CE, but unless spoilers (and paint) are a lot cheaper than I think, how would this be worth doing?

    soooo boring....

As a bike guy myself, I feel your pain. Don't try to make a car fast. It's expensive and all it does is ruin your fuel economy. Think of it this way - driving a slow car makes a bike feel that much faster. or if you're really hell-bent on making a corolla quick, nitrous is the absolute...

    Hidden Hitch

just go on amazon and search for 2015 corolla hitch. Compare the model number of the Matrix hitches with the Corolla hitches. I have a Curt brand hitch on my 2003, and it is supposed to fit through 2013. I tow a small open trailer. A bike rack would obviously put a lot less stress on the...

2016 Corolla S break in period?

break-in periods are all about variable RPM. with a CVT, I'm not really sure how that would work... It's certainly harder for you to control. ...but this question comes up a LOT with race bikes. "I just got a fresh engine build on my R6 - should I take it easy on the track for a few...
