A buddy of mine discovered that you could place a dvd and his head unit would play it with the handbrake up. He has a 2014 S with navi.
I tried, it didn’t play. Kept saying “check disk”.
I have a hard time thinking that Fujitsu Ten / Toyota would put the more precise (thus more expensive) laser reading device required by DVD vs CD, in the HU - not to mention video codec in the firmware - only to carefully hiding it and not marketing this higher end feature…

All the screen options are there, just won’t play. I don’t know if it’s just CD or DVD player. I don’t have the NAV unit nor entune, but I’ll bet it could work on those equipped units. Maybe with bootleg DVD’s or just the older ones.

I think if you where to install that you would lose the use of your back up camera.

My buddies has a entune/nav unit. So maybe that what makes it work. ill have to give it a try to see if my car can. I have a entune but no nav unit.

There were two part numbers, one for the S model and one for everything else. Lol
Listed above is for everything else. I might have to be the Guinea pig this time.

Some radios you had to put a over ride switch in to get videos to play while driving... When you put it in gear it shut the video off... Like you can't type in destinations on nav while your driving... I just wish nav was more of a satellite view rather than 1990's plain Jane graphics.... But yea playing videos would be fun, specially on long drives in the middle of nowhere...

On my entune non nav unit (100149). I just ground the parking brake pin and remove the VSS pin from the connector to go around the blue screen. You love the automatic sound levelizer function though since it is dependent on the speed signal being read by the av unit through the vss. You can however intercept a simple spst switch on the vss line to restore this. The condition for video to be displayed is that speed must not exceed 3 or 5 kph and parking brake is on.

I have the same unit, but ended up swapping it out with a Kenwood 9904s.
If I ever decide to switch it back, I’m doing this! Of course that all depends on if it still works. At the rate the factory radios are failing these days, it’ll probably never work again.
