Winters tires and rims for 2009 Corolla B.C. Canada

I just bought a used 2009 Corolla S and am loving it so far. Now I want to buy it some decent tires and rims for the winter... suffice to say I have no idea how much one should spend without breaking the bank. How do I know what size tire/ rims? Steel rims? Should I buy online or locally? Should I be concerned with all those little cracks around the edges on my current tires? Either way it has already started raining all the time here and it does snow in winter.

On a side note, I wanted to hook up a hitch to it for the purpose of hauling Craigslist furniture around. Any advice on how to go about this?

All you have to do is plug in the info on the website. As an example, Canadian Tire. Select tires, it will ask for make model and year and trim then it will give you the size. If you select the CE as trim it will give you size of the 15 inch tire. You can also do it as a package, rim and tire. Where do you live in BC? I live on the island and I have my alloys and they are fine. I run all weather tires so I don't have to switch them out twice a year as I don't get much snow where I live. As for the hitch, same deal, Canadian Tire likely has one or you can search internet for one, but then you have to get someone to install it.

Thanks a lot for the tips man. I live in Squamish. All weather tires sound like a good idea, only reason I was considering Winters is it's my only transportation. I'll report back what I find.

I agree that good all-season tires should be adequate if you don't get much snow/ice.

For my vehicles I've opted to get a set of inexpensive alloys + winter tires for my cars. In my case I used TireRack.com, but Canadian Tire is probably similar.

Where I live there is a lot of snow and ice, and a LOT of salt put down to deal with it. That makes it hard to keep the stock allow wheels from an early demise. So I feel more comfortable swapping in a dedicated winter rim/wheel set for the ~Nov-March period. It cost me about $800US mounted/balanced/delivered to my door for a set on my 2020 Corolla. I do the swapping myself to save money, and yes, it's a bit of a pain to store the dual sets of wheels for both our vehicles.

Winter tires are also made to work better in colder temperatures, 40 and under. Not just for snow and ice.

Not dismissing winter tires, they are made to do a job, what I am talking about is what we here in Canada have as a third option which is All Weather tire, not to be confused with all season. All weather tires are winter rated, they have the snow flake symbol on the side wall, but you can have them on all year round. in BC (British Columbia) on the lower mainland and mid-lower Vancouver Island we don't typically get snow, if we do it does not last very long and All Weather tires are a great choice. I don't have anywhere to store a set of tires, and I and not going to pay a tire shop to store them for me. I have had Hankook Optimo 4S on the car since about 2016 I think, no issues at all. However I will have to replace them before next winter.
