I heard that when it does this, it may take it a few days to update?
I think that part of what it’s updating is a fix for this issue.
Go back in the forum several pages, there should be another post about this.

My 2014 Toyota Rav 4 also having a radio problem. Stuck in update mode. 1400.00 to fix. Looks like I will not buy Toyota will go with Honda next. Ford and Toyota have now had a major issue at 70,000 miles after purchasing new and after warranty? Took it in to have battery changed out because it went dead and a month or so later radio goes out! Did someone plant a bug in the computer to drum up business?

Why would a dead battery and a radio issue steer you away from one of the best automotive manufacturers on the planet?
Comparing Ford (garbage) and Toyota is kinda comparing apples to oranges.

I have owned Toyota’s, Chevrolet’s, Pontiac’s, Ford’s and a Honda (just one, hated the damn thing!) and I can tell you that ALL of them come with their own issues.
However, I have had less issues with Toyota’s over the other makes.
Your radio was made by Fujitsu and your battery was made by a third party company. This is the norm for today’s car manufacturers. Think of your vehicle as a conglomeration of parts manufactured from multiple sources and assembled by Toyota.

Personally I would stay away from Fujitsu radios and cheap batteries!

I had to replace my 14 Corolla battery at exactly 2 years from time of purchase and my 08 Highlander battery was at 3 years. It’s now on it’s 3rd battery, going into it’s 11th year with 102,000 miles.

Though Blacberry QNX OS definitely have more issues than it should in some types of units, I would check Honda's, Mazda's Ford's reports before assuming those have less. Right now, FCA has thousands of U-Connect units stuck in a loop... As far as batteries, those often come from the same suppliers whatever the brand. A lot of factors comes into play for longevity.
