locking the doors when car is running

#1
Hello.
So my wife has a 2012 corolla S with the keyless entry and start (not remote start) and I have been trying to figure out how to get the car to stay locked when running with out the keys inside the car.
So we live in an area where auto theft is a big problem but it also gets down to -30 on a regular basis in winter. it would be very nice to walk out to the car in the morning start it with the keys in hand then walk back inside the house with the keys in my hand and lock the doors to the car. however the car wont lock! it seems to have some setting that wont let you lock the car when running when they keys are not inside the car.i looked through the owners manual and could find the answer then I talked to the dealer near by and they said what I want isn't possible but that sounds like crap. so any help would be very welcome.

I have 2013 with same keyless entry. I don't think there is a way to defeat it. The only thing I can think of is having a remote start professionally installed that way you can turn car off, lock and then hit the start button.

Letting your car idle on cold mornings is terrible for the engine. Just dress right, start the car and drive it easy. This allows the engine warm up much faster and will burn off the condensation from inside the engine, oil and exhaust. I have a Scanguage on my Corolla and it's amazing how fast I see the coolant temp rise when driving it easy even on very cold mornings.

starting the car. you open the front door, press the start button.

1. close the drivers door. Open another door (I did the rear drivers door) I then press Lock, and close the door all doors are now locked.

This is with the key ignition.

I no longer worry bout this as I now have a Remote starter on a aftermarket alarm system.
something so simple and over looked

Yes say it any way you like no one is right or wrong
