Grinding noise

Hey Everybody...I'm new to this whole forum thing so bear with me...I have an '09 Corolla that makes a metallic grinding noise on cold starts. It does it intermittently so I can't pinpoint a possible cause. When I googled it I came across a cam issue. Has anybody had any experience with this?. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated...TIA

Start by the basics. How’s your oil level? Are you changing your oil as scheduled? Using 0W20? What kind of mileage has your engine?

I have an intermittent noise at starting too. It hasn't done it for a while and it's been cold here in Upstate NY. My cousin told me it might be the starter solenoid. I didn't question him further - I should have - but I think it might be the solenoid not "retracting" and remaining in contact with the flywheel.

Does this sound like the problem you're having?
