front bumper grills

2010 corolla has 4 grills. top, bottom, and small side grills that dont have any air holes like the top and bottom. do the side ones actually do anything? maybe block debris? can i safely remove them? thx

What would be the purpose of removing them? They don't really do anything but they are where the fog lights go on models equipped with them. Not exactly sure what is behind them if you don't have the fog lights but I think it looks better then just a hole and I believe aerodynamically it is better to have them there as it helps direct the air around and over the front versus plowing into a hole and creating resistance.

On the passenger side is the washer fluid reservoir. Removing the fog light cover would expose it to damage from road debris.
