Excessive Oil in Plenum

#1
I have a 1994 Corolla DX with the 1.8l engine. Engine has run fine up until about a few months ago. Full tune up was done end of last year. I pulled the plenum off and found that there was a 3/16" coating of oil inside, bad enough to block the vacuum port for the fuel pressure regulator.

I pulled the spark plugs and they don't look that bad. No signs of oil on them like the rings or valve seals have gone bad.

Any ideas on why so much oil in the plenum?

Welcome to the Corolla Forum!:clap::):thumbup1::balloon:

Possibly a plugged PCV valve could cause this. Remove it and shake it to see if it makes a clear rattling sound and if it does, it's okay. If it doesn't, it should be replaced. They are about $5 or so.

Checked that when I pulled the plenum. It appears to be fine. I'm going to tear down the head. I'm leaning towards valve seals since I haven't seen anything else that could cause this issue. The engine has 245,000 original miles and I know they've never been replaced.

Wow, that's impressive for an engine to go 245,000 miles!:)

If you can post pictures of what the engine looks like internally, that would be great for everyone to see.

Haven't worked on it in 2 weeks. My Trans Am had close to 400,000 on the original engine. My dad had over 300,000 on his 1970 Corolla before replacing the engine and racking up another 200,000. It's all about maintenance. I'll post some pics when I pull the head.
