Corolla gets #2 Consumer Reports Best Buy Rank

#1
Overall score out of 100: 78. Reliable, roomy interior, "Ho-Hum engine" with excellent mileage. The Corolla is a smart purchase that won't let you down. Number One? Chevy Impala. Overall score: 86. I'll stick with Corolla. Impala's a pretty big vehicle, which is okay, but the Corolla got 32 mpg combined, the Impala 22 mpg combined. But i would love a Corolla with a small 6 cylinder engine in it...Heh Heh!

mmmm V6 corolla... sign me up... lol they made V8 small block conversion kits for first gen focus.. lol but I'd love to see a V6 version for the corolla... i wanted another GMC terrain till i found out they trashed all the V6 in the 2018 models... stuff the camry v6 in the corolla, we'd all have grins ear to ear.... i think 99% of us here would want one...

This is why I turbocharged my 10th Gen Corolla. I get a lot more power and yet when I'm just cruising I still get 33+ mpg with all of that lovely turbo torque so low in the power band. My Corolla is a blast to drive with turbo power. A V6 would be fun too but I think adding the turbo was much easier since it was designed for the Corolla.

Now that I know the CVT can handle between 5-8 psi of boost comfortably...
When I get this paid off...:D!

I'm running 8.6 psi on my 2009 Corolla S 5MT. The nice thing about that much boost is that it keeps everything reliable but allows me to have the power on tap when needed. If you drive your CVT normally and don't race it at every stop light I think it will work perfectly just as it would normally.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Toyota make some Corollas back in the late '90 or early'00 with the Camry V6 in them?
Nope. The Corolla has always had an I-4 from the factory. At least in the NA market. I'm sure that people have swapped in a V6 but I would be concerned about the extra weight over the front axle and if it would throw off the balance of the car. Adding my turbo kit to my Corolla didn't add much weight at all and I also moved the battery to the trunk which moved that 40 lbs for better weight distribution.

The NA market has never got a V6 but in other markets...
"In August 2007, Toyota released the Blade Master and Blade Master G, an upgraded trim of the Blade which features Toyota's 280 PS (206 kW), 3.5 litre 2GR-FEV6 engine, larger brakes, and an upgraded suspension. Toyota discontinued the Blade in April 2012, ahead of the replacement of the Auris, without a direct successor."

The Blade was basically the luxury version of the Auris in Japan.

I hear ya, Denis! Used to have the 1st year FR-S before the Corolla, no mods, just pure $hit eatin' grin the whole time i was near the car or driving it. But now, with the Corolla, i'm starting to enjoy it almost as much as the FR-S. Not quite the same shove back in the driver's seat when i punch it in the Corolla, but i feel more visible to fellow drivers, and that whole safety sense package gives me a reason to bitch back when it beeps or nudges the steering wheel - Aw, C'mon...a 4 year old coulda made THAT move!!

I just checked and the 2018 Corolla is #1 out of 21 compact cars. And #1 out of 33 for small cars. And it's not a small car.
At work i usually park next to a '13 Honda Pilot, and the Corolla is pretty close to the length of the Pilot, wheelbase a bit shorter and also depends on how much attention i'm paying that early in the morning. I don't think of it as a small car. Yeah, compact maybe. I just wish it came with a ballsy or little league parent HORN.
