Corolla automatic doors locking

#1
Hello guys,

I have toyota corolla year 2002 manufactured in UK E12 model with 1CDFTV engine 2.0 D4D 90 hp. Yesterday when I was coming back from work I noticed something strange. I unlock the doors via buttons on the key but didn't open the door immediately since I was talking to a friend. Approximately after 1 minut the doors locked automatically so I had to unlock via remote key buttons again.

I'm 100% sure this didn't work before since often I left my car unlocked in my backyard. My friend told me that it is possible that I activate this feature accidentally by pressing the key buttons in some particular way.

I searched the Internet trying to find appropriate manual but I wasn't successful. My car doesn't have any special car alarm. However I have found information how it is possible to program and unprogram keys by manipulating the doors and ignition key.

Do you maybe know it this is true and if I really can turn on and off this automatic door locking feature?

Thank you for your help.

I have noticed the same thing on my 2014 Corolla. I thought maybe I had punched something on the key but maybe it is the same thing.
I would have to check the owners manual about that. I always use the lock button on the key when parking, so I hadn't noticed if the doors automatically locked after an interval.

Yes, it seems this is normal. In the link you posted it says that the doors will automatically lock after 30 sec and indeed this is the case.

Thank you
