Bad smell form heater

Hi, I am new to the forum. I just bought a 2006 5-speed Corolla and noticed that there is a bad smell coming from the heater which isn't present with the A/C running.

Is there a way to clean out the heater core area without taking the dash apart?

check cabin filter imagine what you may find. I ask the previous owner what that smell was?
