2012 Corolla - Interior Lights

My wife has a 2012 Corolla and the interior lights will not come on when any of the doors are open. Is there a fix for this? My 2014 Corolla will come on so what's the deal with this? Being a retired police officer I feel that this is very unsafe as you can not see who might be hiding in the back seat when you enter the vehicle.

Is the switch set to door?

There is a Dome light on top, center it is a Off auto On. check to see like Don is saying. and the lights will dim on and off. Something simply overlooked.
