2011 Corolla - Oil Change Questions

#1
I have a certified used automatic 2011 Corolla LE that I bought from a Toyota dealership in April/May of this year. When the mileage hit 40,200 miles I took it back and had them change the oil cause it was free to do so & they used synthetic oil. The next scheduled oil change on the sticker says 50,200 miles but the Maintanence Required light has come on and stayed on since the mileage turned about 45,200. According to the owners manual the Maint Reqd. light means it needs an oil change, but Im confused why it would come on so early.

Also I recently moved to another part of the country & drove my Corolla many miles, should I just change the oil anyway cause of the very long distance driven to get here?

One more thing I dont see anywhere in the owners manual about whats the correct mileage interval to do an oil change for my car......anyone know? I think I saw every 5,000 miles, but is that for conventional oil? ok one more thing whats the correct weight of oil to use I plan to use synthetic only & I think the dealership had used synthetic 0-20w, but I'm now in southern california & the winter weather is very mild here. Thanks for any replies

Something Toyota forgotten to correct, changing the maint req light to 10K per.

Pkg care they do not change out if brought in at every 5K, they will change out every 10-15K.

Use OW weight for your car synthetic oil.

Not going to preach the rules to you.

Old school we change the oil before a long trip, and then soon after. today Drive and go.

Driving a car for 35 plus years, and been there, done that.

Welcome to the forum!

The 'Maint Req'd' light comes-on every 5K regardless of how you drive.

I'm running Mobil-1 0-20 Synthetic in my Corolla and plan on changing it just before 10K miles.

Toyota is going to keep the Maintenance Required light at 5k (you still have to rotate tires and check the fluid levels at 5K intervals).

So all the light is doing right now is reminding you to get the tires rotated. All your car needs.

Every 10k, use 0W-20 synthetic.

Toyota care pkg takes care of the tire rotations at the 2nd pkg date, they will top all the fluids levels, check all areas and rotate the tires. What is not included I nthe pkg will be the Air filter, and Cabin filter. enjoy
