2010 Corolla - Click/Thump on Right Turn

#1
Quick question for anyone that has more automotive knowledge than I do. Took my 2010 Corolla in to have it looked at since it has recently developed a clicking/thumping sound when I make a sharp right turn (it's intermittent, but frequent enough to be noticed).

The shop I took it to said the source of the noise was the left outer CV joint, but that after inspection, they didn't see anything really wrong with it, so they recommended simply putting up with the noise to save money, and to keep an eye on it and replace it if/when it actually begins showing signs of significant wear.

Does that sound like good advice or should I get a second opinion on it?

Thanks so much for any help/advice!

How many miles are on the car?

What did they do to, "inspect", the CV joint?

Put up with an abnormal noise to, "save money"? Wow. If the CV joint comes apart while you're driving, you could end up in the hospital. I don't see the savings there.

It sounds to me like the auto center/garage you took it too is not very competent and is basically saying, "Uhh...we don't know what's wrong with it".

Not professional, at all.

Have the CV joints/axles ever been replaced?

If a CV joint is making noise, there most certainly is something wrong with it and it's about to fail.

Not good.

It's just about to crest 100k miles, the joints have not been replaced before, it seemed like people reported pretty wildly different numbers for how long the joints should last. It all seems to come down to making sure the boot is in good repair and nothing has gotten in to damage the joint. It's definitely something new to keep an eye on, so I'm glad to have learned a bit more about it.

After some additional research online, I came to the same conclusion since a failure in that part would result the vehicle being inoperable. Especially as my wife drives the vehicle over half the time, I don't want her out stranded on the side of the road waiting for a tow.

Thanks for the response!

as mentioned if it is making noise it is failing. I would take care to another shop have them look at it. I would have it replaced ASAP. Again already mentioned but if the cv joint flies apart while driving it is not a good picture.

becomes a quite expensive repair $300.00 for a axel. And quite more if, ignoring it. Axels go by not just the boot, if other parts that put stress on the section. A simple blade of grass can tear the boot, and catching the boot in advance, and placing lube in will expand the life. just do not let this go to long. Enjoy
