2004 Corolla Sport Questions

I'm thinking of buying a 2004 Corolla Sport S for my daughter to drive to school. It will be her first car.

It's a manual supposedly in excellent condition with 153,000 miles on it.

I contacted the owner and asked a few questions and he replied "The previous owner said he change the timing belt"
I've looked online(not here, places like yahoo answers, cars.com etc.) and most people say the 2004 Corolla had a timing chain but a lot still said it has a timing belt.

Do does a 2004 Toyota Corolla Sport have a timing belt or timing chain? I believe it has a 1.8 L engine

I'm new here and I hate to start off asking questions so Thanks for the help

It's chain driven ... and with 153,000 miles ... and through two owners. I'd hold off and find something better.

we do not know the price and I say agree look for something that daughter will not be calling you Dad car is not running

Thanks, the guy is asking 4900$ and the KBB price for excellent is 4500. He said he changed the oil every 3k miles and etc., I'll give him time to hold the car and keep looking.

Yeah, for that much with those miles it would have to be emmaculate with maintenace records.
