ok the trans went out in my brother inlaws 03 corolla s. I put a used trans back in. the used trans didn't have a speed sensor and I forgot to take the one out of the other trans. ok so I got a new sensor, installed it and I still have no speedometer and a p0500 code. its a auto trans also. any help. corollas aren't something I work on much and don't really know anything about their systems. thanks.

Is the VSS for the correct year? Usually Toyota doesn't do any tricky mid-year changes but it is possible that they changed something in the circuit from the transmission that died to the transmission that you pulled from the donor car. See if the part number for the VSS for the year of the Corolla you pulled the transmission from looks different than the one they list for the '03.
