1999 Corolla- Do I Have a 3-Speed or 4-Speed Automatic Transmission?

I have a 99 corolla ce how do I tell if it's 3 speed or 4 speed automatic? It does have an o/d button on shifter if that help. Thanks.

If it has an O/D button, it is a 4-speed.

With most cars, that is absolutely correct. However, I have heard of a few cars that use the third gear as an overdrive.

To be absolutely certain, call your local Toyota dealer's Parts Department, provide them the VIN# of your vehicle and they can tell you without any doubt whether the car is equipped with a 3-speed or 4-speed automatic transmission.

If you have drive, 2nd, lo and OD off then you have a 4 speed.

If your car is a "VE" it only came with a 3 speed trans. On the CE it was an option and standard equipment on the LE. If you've got an OD button it will be a 4 speed.
