What ever tire you get make sure to buy the proper 225/45R17 size. For whatever reason Toyota used a smaller diameter 17" tire then they di in the other tire sizes. These are the OEM sizes along with optional sizes with each tires diameter. I agree that the General G-Max is an excellent choice with very good performance and a great price.

Noise, too hard or soft sidewalls, poor hydroplaning resistance, poor longevity... That being said, I've had "top" brands that were sometimes so-so and "cheap" brands that were sometimes great. Actually, cheap brands are often re-edition of yesterday's top brands that were once the "greatest" but had to make space for the "new greatest" (hello marketing) of top brands.
Because tires are the ONLY thing touching the ground and make a huge difference in braking distance, steering input and ride, even on a daily driver. If you do your homework cheap tires are cheap for a reason most of the time. There are good deals that are less expensive but just buying the cheapest tire has been shown to cost more money sometimes since a high quality tire may outlast 2 sets that you then have to pay for mounting and balancing them twice compared to once.
Yep, and Toyota put on a tire that is one size too small. Most people have corrected that error when replacing the 215/45R17 OEM tires. The diameter is too small. The 225/45R17 is perfect though. Here are the OEM sizes with the diameter and some optional sizes that work well too.
