Hey Corolla folks - First time poster here! I chose this site because it had a lot of activity compared to other Corolla sites. Got a few questions on a 2013 I just purchased, and I'm hoping you can help.
I did a quick search here but saw little about 2013 Corolla stereos, in here and the modification forum, so here goes.
Wife and I had a totally stock Mineral Green 2003 Corolla LE 5spd with just about 200K on it. Zero issues with that car and it had great overall quality. All was fine until a drunk Expedition driver rammed it in our driveway last month. Guy took off and we never caught'em. Grrr.... Crunched the core support, cracked the glass and caused over $6600 in damage. It was totaled.
But on the bright side, the decision to go buy another Corolla was an easy one. So a 2013 L is what we ended up with. The problem is, the stereo is absolutely terrible. It fades out under bridges, the display can only handle one function at a time and the overall sound quality is flat and lifeless, regardless of how many settings you can tweak. Far cry from the 02 stock stereo.
So, knowing there aren't a lot of modified 2013s out there, can anyone give guidance in letting me know if they think Id be best suited with a new antenna, head unit, speakers, or all of the above?
There is no roof mounted antenna - so I presume the antenna is in the glass. If you ask me, it acts like some crappy satellite radio antenna, yet we are only listening to local stations. (and dont have any satellite radio subscriptions). Not sure how to cure this problem, but was hoping a new head unit could help. The one thing a radio needs to do is receive, and this one is terrible at it.
Obviously my display issues can be cured with a new deck, but will it enhance the sound do you think, still using factory speakers?
Just curious the thoughts of those out there that may have done this to their Corollas. Good, bad? Any recommendation on a head unit/antenna?
Thank in advance.
