Upgrade advice

I'm quite new to the way cars work so correct if I'm wrong. I have a few questions about some stuff I want to upgrade to aftermarket products to benefit my 2015 Toyota Corolla Le.

1. What kind of exaust system would increase its preformance and if I need any additional parts besides the piping. Please givea link to good exaust.
2. What is the legal tint for front side windows in California?
3. What size rims can I use? Please provide link to black rims that will fit.
4. What spoiler would fit? Please provide link.
5. If I get a K&N aftermarket air intake system, do I need to replace square filter to the cylinder filter?
6. What are the benefits and down falls of a spoiler, exaust system, and air intake system?
7. What other ways can I help upgrade its performance?

1.) DC Sport headers and custom piping will help with HP gains but will not pass inspections in Cali(if they do them)

I don't know...they offer Delinte D7 tires on all the packages...you know what they say about cheap tires...

Here is a short clip of an 11th gen with the Weapon-R Headers
I wish there were headers with smaller diameters so that it would be more practical for our cars that are mostly in the low to mid range rpms. Scott had a post explaining it better than I can, but I'm waiting for the smaller diameter version to come out before putting it on my daily lol

Since nobody really touched on the intake...
K&N filters are my favorite. But I would never spend the money on their intake setup for our Corolla's.
I currently have the injen cold air intake installed. I like it but it doesn't kick in until around 2k rpm.
I had the HPS short ram intake before the injen. This intake was better for me. It kicked in from the beginning but didn't provide a lot of passing power at highway speeds.
Unfortunately I sold the HPS to offset the cost of the injen. When I went to buy another HPS, they were sold out everywhere.
However, if your interested in the HPS, they will be back sometime this fall!
See the post I just put up.
There are other aftermarket intakes available, these mentioned are the most common. AEM & Weapon R also have intakes available for us.

I have recently purchased the HPS SRI and I really love the sound and top end bump it gives me, also for $180.50 with free shipping. I also wonder how much more responsive the throttle will be after putting in the Pedal Commander
P.S. HPS SRI is in stock at CarID, and I will post the link once I meet the requirements to lol

I bought the HPS three times before I gave up. Everyone said they had it in stock but then cancelled my order a week later.
I've been considering the pedal commander as well.

Don't forget that Jetchip.com makes a MAFS for our cars also. These work great in the aftermarket intakes.

Does the aftermarket MAFS actually deliver or is just hyped up?

Depends on how much oil you use. Lol!
What would be the difference if you were to install aftermarket intake oil type and then use the stock MAFS?
I think if this was true, then the aftermarket intakes would also be shown as incompatible.
Just my opinion.
I have had my Jetchip MAFS for a little over a year now, without any problems.
I keep the OEM unit just in case.

Most aftermarket intakes use K&N filters. I remember reading that K&N's oil does not effect engine performance.
Just an afterthought.
You only need a very light coat of it anyways.

1.) California's emission is strict. Plus, your Corolla is computer-driven. You mess with your exhaust, you will get engine codes.

2.) Window tinting, stop by your local window tinting shop(s) and ask the tint limit. Or talk to a police officer.

3.) The bigger the wheel, the more expensive the tire will be.

4.) OEM or a duck lip spoiler only. Personally, the Evo & TRD spoiler only work if your Collora is lower & has the OEM "S" lip kit on.

5.) Air intakes are overpriced! Again, your computer-driven will not like the upgrade. The ECU, motor, & MAF sensor will react violently.

6.) no, real benefits other than the bling, bling, bling factor.

7.) IF YOU ARE REAL SERIOUS about making real power! Don't waste money cosmetic & apparel for your Corolla. GET your Corolla paid off 1st! Make sure the title is under your name and you are paying for the insurance (Don't modify a car that is NOT 100% yours).

I recommend getting leak down, compression test and a dyno done. This is for your benefit, so you have a REAL idea of your Corolla's numbers.

The 1st mod I recommend for these computer-driven cars is piggy-back ECU with harness and find a local tuner shop that is familiar with ECU for the tuning process.

However, if you want something more affordable with REAL performance: TIRES... a set of GOOD summer sports tires!

False on the exhaust. It's a dealer option except maybe in California. Cat back does nothing to emissions. It's purely for sound.

Not necessarily. Common sizes are generally priced competitively. But as a whole, 18" tires will be more than 14" tires.

I agree with the price tags! But I have injen cold air intake with jetchip MAFS and TRD exhaust, and never have any problems. I also had an HPS short ram and had no problems with that either.

The benefits are personal. I like what I've done. It's only meant to satisfy me.

This all depends on long term plans for you vehicle. I plan on paying mine off.

1) In California, because all emission related components must be CARB exempt to be legal, and nobody has made CARB exempt headers or such for our car, any exhaust you get would be cat-back or axle-back and therefore be mainly for sound. It would maybe give you +5hp at most.
2) In California any tint darkness is permitted on the rear doors and rear window. Any darkness is allowed on the windshield for a 4inch strip at the top only. Besides the strip, no tint is legal whatsoever on the windshield. No tint is legal whatsoever on the front windows. People still do it, but they get tickets for it all the time (source: my friends all get ticketed for it. I try to stay legal)
3) Dude that's a matter of opinion mostly haha
4) I suggest the mapisa type Z spoiler.
5) No aftermarket intakes for our car have ever been CARB exempt, and therefore none are legal. Just go with a drop in K&N filter. Perfectly legal. You will not pass smog with an intake.
6) Spoiler on this car is just for looks. The downside is it may look stupid and ricey to others. Exhaust is just for sound on our car. Basically no down sides of exhaust. Intake is illegal in CA (See #5)
7) The biggest thing you can do to improve performance of our car is handling. I suggest good tires (BFGoodrich GeForce Comp 2 All Seasons), TRD front strut brace, TRD rear sway bar, and a bunch of other Megan Racing chassis bars.
I strongly suggest that you use the search tool at the top because all of these items have been thoroughly covered many many times before here haha. Good luck!
