Question on 2016 Corolla LE

Hello All,

We purchased a 2016 Corolla LE from a Toyota Dealer. My Prius was totaled recently from a rear end crash. I like my Corolla just that it makes noise when accelerating from 0-25 mph range. I noted it during my test drive and my dealer said it is from CVT and is common in cars with 4 cylinders. I would like to know if any of you had similar experiences.

I remember when mine was new, I thought it was loud for a 4 cylinder.

I put TRD exhaust on the car. Now it's just noisy in a different location. Lol
But yes, I got used to it.
Our exhaust manifolds are on the firewall side of the engine. That's probably what your hearing.

The CVT is the only thing I don't like about my '17. I just did a 1400 mile mini road trip and at highway speed you don't even hear it. I went through some hilly country with the cruise on, and the RPMs were well over 4k as the tranny tried to break the car going down hill and that was loud. Rumor has it (If my salesman is creditable) that in the next generation Toyota is dumping the CVT for a six speed, anyone else hear that?

I doubt it. Civic, Accord and all Nissans use CVT for a reason. Since Corolla hasn't had any issues with their CVT, unless they're planning to change the power train drastically to turbo or sc, but even civic turbo has a CVT so not sure why they would do such a thing. Don't listen to the dealers, a lot of them don't know jack about technical aspects of cars which should be a requirement. I can't tell you how many times I've caught them on a technicality or past/current/future news plans and they're clueless. Of course there are some that are very knowledgeable but I wouldn't bet on what you're heard.

I also doubt it. Beside some - and there are less and less even among "reviewer" - not getting use to the different variation in drivetrain sound, CVTs have a weight, efficiency and especially cost advantage for manufacturers.
Unless they want to push traditional Corolla buyer toward Yaris (meaning push Corolla upmarket, which I also doubt).
Now, if the rumor about a marketing image making high-end Corolla's getting BMW engines become reality, then maybe in those.
But Toyota already uses BMW engines in Europe and it has nothing to do with performance.

Not only corolla will keep its cvt but Camry is dropping its 6 speed auto and replacing with cvt as did Altima and accord long time ago. Doesn't take much to find tons of articles that support this.

Actually no. The new Camry drops the 6AT for an 8AT. Still an eCVT for hybrid.
