Leather peeling on steering wheel

#1
Hey,

Just noticed that my partner's 2014 Corolla Ascent Sport is starting to have the leather on the steering wheel peel off. Is this something that can be repaired easily, or will I need to go and replace the entire wheel, and how much would I be looking at for either option?

There are many options. A good automotive upholstery shop can re wrap it. There are materials available and videos on YouTube for DIY. (Look up Chris Fix)
You can replace the whole thing with either aftermarket or OEM, the latter being about $500 plus labor.
Possibly a warranty repair.
Or just trade the car in! Lol

Thanks, I'll give Toyota a ring and see if they can cover it under warranty. Any idea how much of a job changing the wheel is? I could even try to chase one down from a wrecker. I don't really know of any automotive upholstery shops around here.

Personally I would just put on a steering wheel cover. Should be a big choice under $20.
Can't say I'm personally a fan of the steering wheel covers, not to mention it's my girlfriends car, haha.

There are YouTube videos on how to replace the steering wheel on Toyota's. I've watched a few but I've not seen any that were specific to the Corolla. Most were on the Tacoma, but there wouldn't be much difference.
I think you would need to rent a steering wheel puller from an auto parts store.
I would definitely start with the warranty first! If it's not a covered claim, the dealership might know of an upholstery shop. Check with their used car department though.
