Pedal Commander Throttle Controller

#1
So I bought the Pedal Commander Throttle Controller. Cost a pretty penny, $300. I will update this post as I drive it more as the first day won't tell much. Super easy to install, no cutting of any wires. When you order it you give them your vehicle information and it comes with the correct plugs for the throttle pedal. First impressions of it are pretty good. You can most definitely tell the difference when touching the pedal, instantly gets more sensitive. There are 4 modes: Eco, City, Sport, Sport + and each mode you can adjust the sensitivity up 4 or down 4 to really customize the feeling.

(The wires are going the other way now for where I mounted it. I took this picture when I initially installed it)

I installed it on the dash next to the steering wheel and ran the wires through the 1st empty plug. To get this plug out I had to pull the panel off on the left side to get behind the dash area.

I drilled the side of the blank switch plate out so the cord would run through it and look as clean as possible.

Here are the 3 places you can purchase it from (I purchased mine from amazon):

also, they said that installing it will void the warranty, so in case that you need to honor the warranty, can u just take it off and take the car for service?

Glad someone did a throttle controller install! Because I was looking into the Apex-i unit. And I didn't want the jdm "fitment headache"

I wonder how that would work with the oem "Sport mode" button(cvt)?

How did you detach the plastic trim under the steering wheel that blocks access to installing the Pedal Commander? I don't want to break off the plastic, but can't get past the back part of the plastic steering wheel trim that runs right next to the gas pedal.

I think what your talking about is part of the center console? If so, I don’t think it comes off. Looks like he just tucked the PC in behind it.
If you talking about the bottom trim panel, there are two Phillips head screws and a plastic locking tab on the leading edge.

I managed to get it off (2 Phillips head screws and a middle latch), but Pedal Commander sent me the wrong product.. I got PC27 when I needed PC55, so I can’t wait to get it and update on its credibility as a good throttle response controller.

Very curious about this mod. Could you make a video on the before and after results?

I should be going to a test and tune in a month or two, but it definitely comes off the bottom a lot better in any setting besides the Eco one..lol Eco will have you mashing the pedal and only getting 1500 RPM at best. Well worth the money though; it makes the car fun to drive

Ok, I’ve ordered one.
269.99 with coupon and free shipping.
Hey Chris, do you just plug it in to the ODB2 port? Let us know if it made any difference, does it just make it jerky? I wonder if it's healthy for a CVT tranny. It may be programmed the way it is for a reason but who knows. Either way I'm considering one myself but would love to see a before and after. Saw a youtube video of dude just flooring it and doing a pull to like a 100 which doesn't really demonstrate for what it was intended. Does it make it feel faster from the stop?

I’ll let everyone know!
Should be here by the weekend.
It plugs in to the pedal, in between the factory connection. From what I understand, it increases the voltage just enough to make the computer think that you’ve pressed the pedal further than you actually have.
Should be a fun mod!

Thanks!
So theoretically you're flooring it even though you're slightly touching the gas pedal? Sounds like an ON/OFF thing. Wonder if you still have throttle control passed the initial jolt.

I wouldn’t go as far to say flooring it. I’m sure your familiar with the slight lag between pressing on your pedal and engine response? This will “correct” that.
IMO (I’m no engineer) but by adding 1 volt to the baseline voltage, for example, would trick the computer into thinking that you’ve applied pressure thus eliminating that lag.
I don’t know this for sure, I’m just providing an example. Your accelerator is just a voltage regulator anyways. Pedal commander is just manipulating that voltage.
Again, I don’t know for sure how this thing works. So take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

From what I understand about throttle controllers in general, their main purpose is to remove the throttle error/throttle lag that drive-by-wire (electronic) throttles have. In a cable throttle car or drive-by-cable car, there is no lag as the gas pedal is directly opening the butterfly valve in the throttle body. Since on newer cars the system is all electric, there is a slight lag between when you press the gas pedal down and when that signal is sent to the throttle body. With a throttle controller such as the one Pedal Commander makes or from any other brand that makes one like Weapon R, the device sends a faster signal which eliminates the dead spot on the gas pedal so that there is no throttle lag. In essence, it kind of is making the gas pedal a little bit more sensitive when you initially press it but this results in the electronic throttle being more closely matched with a cable throttle in terms of response. Hope this helps to explain it a little better.

I wonder how much of the lag is related to drive by wire as opposed to CVT sluggish acceleration from stop nature. Are there any drive by cable with CVT transmission cars out there, and if so I wonder if they're experiencing a similar lag as us.

I think the drive by wire setup is older than the mass use of CVT transmissions. Dunno.
I have a 2008 Highlander (sport) that is drive by wire, and it lags bad. After putting the pedal commander on the Corolla, I might be buying one for the Highlander!
This thing lives up to the hype!
And, I finally saw my mpg get over 30!

I’m working on a video for YouTube about it. I’ll post up when I get er done!

I’m still working on getting a video together. I’m having storage memory problems and I’m waiting on a WiFi hard drive. I’ve got more than an hour of footage including keeping up with a Subaru! There not that fast!!

This pedal commander is friggin amazing! Why did I wait so long?

Hey if you need any help with that NAS setup, just say the word, I work in IT ;)
