Broken AUX INPUT [Toyota Corolla Sport 2009]

My Aux Input on my Toyota Corolla is broken. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it just doesn't, sometimes I wiggle it around and it will work.

Question:

I. Is this a fairly common problem? I've heard that it is, due to the parts design.

II. Is taking the front center panel off fairly routine? I'd rather not try doing it myself if I might do permanent damage.

III. Are their any cheaper options than the 60-80 dollar replacements I can find online? Besides, I'd like a better designed replacement if possible, not something that will likely break again.
