New cars first oil change to remove metal from break in worth it?

Hello, i just bought a 2015 corolla le and i see the oil change intervals are 5k or 10k depending on what oil you use, however since my car is now at about 450 miles after a week of driving (i drive about 70 - 100 miles a day) i wanted to change the oil and filter myself and start using a mobil 1 synthetic oil since i dont get free oil changed anyways. I was thinking since the engine is breaking in there might be metal in the oil and i wanted to change it and maybe even install a magnetic plug. Do you all think its worth it? Also what about the tranny?

I do change my oil at 5k miles intervals using a 0-20w oil , but that may be a little overkill . I don`t think it`s needed at 500 miles on a new engine even though that was somewhat common to do many years ago . Nothing wrong with Mobil 1 oil . I`m not sure what change interval is on the tranny , there is no dipstick to check the level either .

E.D. That's a good question. I'm old school and I just hit the 1000 mile mark on my 2015 and been thinking the same thing. But recent experience with Mobil 1 ep oil has me more concerned with the factory filter possibly containing these metal fragments. 10k miles on the syn oil doesn't scare me as much. If 40 bucks doesn't break your bank, then might as well opt on the cautious side and do a driveway oil and filter now. Minimal entry is to change the filter at least.....that's where I'm leaning but I would like to hear some more opinions for and against doing it early.

I am at 8,400 miles on my 2015 LE Eco... going to go to the dealer for the first oil change when the car hits the 10,000 mile mark.... probably will be about 3 weeks from now.

WORTH IT? darn yeah! on any car make! what I usually do, and recommend to my friends is to go like 5000kms and go back to dealer to have it oil change serviced. then another 5k again, and do the 8K oil change service or maintenance

wow, thats a lot. if we are doing this every 10,000 miles engine oil change. that is more degrading the life of our 2zr engine. toyota even other makers paid a lot of money to their engineers/testers, thats why they come up, we come back to them or ourselves to engine oil change our corollas. it could be one statement in the future from toyota when we are claiming an engine warranty on our corollas.

but AGAIN, it is up to us. when and where we want to engine oil change, and selecting what engine oil type we use even.

i would do it at 10K, you are right! you might get a replacement engine. remember youre the first owner right? toyota is very good in replacing what is under warranty. make sure it is before 5 years or 100K kilometers, or if you have ECP

but if this is youre 1st oil change, it's up to you, 1000K, 3K, 5K miles, they will understand it, and they know why they are agreeing it to an earlier schedule to you first oil change.

The paper work I got with my 2017 said that I needed to first change at 5k. First 2 yrs service is free>

Every new car I've bought I changed the oil at 1k miles, to me it's just cheap insurance and won't hurt anything but can only help. On my 09 Corolla I changed it at 1k, 5k and every 5k miles after that as on the 09 you had to change it every 5k miles to stay in warranty no matter if you used synthetic or not. After my warranty was over I started changing it every 7500 miles. I now have 96k miles on my Corolla and she doesn't use any oil so it must have been worth it!

I believe the art of the 400 or 600 mile oil change went out the window when engines began being hot ran (hot tested) before being sold. That said the manufacturer runs these motors before they go to the dealer. Only motor I know of that is NOT hot ran prior to sale is the Mercedes AMG. Those things are built, by hand, by a half dozen people in the world and need a 1000 mile break in period.

As you said you can believe if you want too. I've asked a lot of Toyota master mechanics and others that I know and they have all told me to still do it. It doesn't hurt anything and can only help. It's only about $25 to do the oil change myself so why not play it safe? To each there own though, I prefer to do it since I tend to keep my cars for a long time. I wouldn't care if I sold them at 100k miles or less.

To say you have a trouble free Corolla with 96k is not a testament to your frequency of oil changes; it's a testament to Toyota. I had an 09 trouble free corolla and I changed the oil at 10k mile intervals due my daily long distance driving. I traded the car in with 170k only because I hit an animal at 65mph. Mobil 1 has an engine oil they guarantee you change once a year. Many practices out there to suit all types.

I realize that but I've also had Toyotas that had 300k miles and had no oil usage. My point was that it won't hurt anything to change it but it could hurt if you didn't. Why people are so defiant when it comes to changing oil more often I'll never understand. You only have a new car with a new engine every so often so why risk it? It's not like it costs $500 to do, it's only $25!
