Hi, I have a 2008 Australian model. The lights on the dash and console are no longer working. For a while they would not come on at start up so I turned the headlights on and off and the dash and console lights would sometimes come on, sometimes not. Now they are not working at all. Any ideas? Could it be a fuse? If so where will I find the fuse that controls this? Any help appreciated!!! Cheers ...

That doesnt sound high to me. The part was at least $100 after shop markup? A couple hours labor. Sounds about right to me for book time.

Yep everything to do with cars is an expensive rip off here. $90 of that would have been an hour's labour...
I have heard that pretty much everything in Australia is very expensive due to high taxes. Yes?

I've seen many pictures and videos of Australia and it looks like a very beautiful place! :)

We have done 110,000 kms with me just changing the oil & filter every 5k; and plugs and coolant once. Other than the light problem, it hasn't missed a beat. We passed our 06 Corolla Wagon on to our son, same deal, oil and filter every 5000 kms, coolant and plugs every 100k, never missed a beat, best car we have ever owned, 240,000 trouble free Kms so far. I bought a kit to do the auto trans filter to give it a treat so that's up next.

P.S. Things aren't that bad in Aus, weather is good, crime rate low compared to the US, but car and bike parts (and the initial purchase price of the vehicle) are dearer than in the US so I usually buy any pricey stuff from there and it is cheaper including the post.

A new base model corolla sedan over here is $23,990 which is about $22,790 USD I believe. Three year fixed price servicing at $130 each though.

It sounds like your Corolla has been very reliable for you.

The many years long drought in Australia has been causing a lot of problems. :(

I have a friend who is working somewhere near Perth in an iron ore mine in a very hot and dry area. I've forgotten the name. I'm sure you know what I mean. He says the working conditions are brutal.
