Vibration In The Car

#1
I bought my 2002 Toyota Corolla almost 5 months ago with 161k miles in it.
Now it has 165 k miles. I did an oil change and tire rotation with Midas at 164k miles. After that whenever the car goes over a speed of 70 miles/hr. it starts vibrating a lot.
What happened just before the oil change was that the engine was totally dry for a while ( that's when i got to know my 2002 Toyota Corolla consumes engine oil).

what can be the possible reasons for vibrations.

Can it be the air pressure in tires at it was low(28-30psi), I raised it to 33-35 psi today only.

And one more thing, the vibration is mainly felt on steering wheel.

I am a newbie to this forum, so I am not following the rules, do let me know .

Welcome aboard. :)

Sounds like either the tires have become cupped because of lack of rotation and re-balancing, or an out of alignment condition causing the cupping wear on the tires. The tires also may need re-balancing and with the vibration in the steering wheel this indicates the front tires are the cause.

Incorrect air pressure in the tires will not cause a vibration problem, no.

Any engine consumes motor oil by design, some more, some less. There are many potential causes of excessive oil consumption. With 164,000 miles, it may be the PCV valve needs replacing. A new PCV valve is about $5 or so.

What viscosity, brand and type of oil, (petroleum or synthetic), was installed in the engine?

Good Afternoon.
Thank you for your prompt reply. :)

It seems you are right as the vibration issue started after the recent tire rotation done along with the recent oil change.

So should I get the realignment done for front two(or all four) tires ?
And is it necessary now or I can get it done with next oil change ( as the Midas guy asked me to do).

Also I checked the price of PCV valve for my car (its 7.5$ at autozone).
Can I change it myself or I need to get it changed at a maintenance store.

When I was out of engine oil I used 5W30 engine oil.
I don't know what was used by Midas people during oil change.
And I think so it was not synthetic as synthetic would have been costlier.

You should only have the car aligned if it needs it. Many tire stores will check the alignment for free. Call around.

Yes, front wheel drive cars always need four wheel alignments.

If the vehicle is out of align, there is no benefit at all in waiting to have the alignment done. Indeed, waiting will only make the tire wear worse, wear out the tires faster, reduce fuel economy and reduce handling.

PCV valves are usually easy to replace. Search YouTube.com using Keywords -> Toyota Corolla, PCV valve, and you should find a video showing you how to replace it.

A high quality synthetic oil like AMSOIL, "The First in Synthetics", burns off at a much slower rate than other oils and can save a lot of money. Petroleum oils are usually the more costly choice.
