I recently took a 1700 mile road trip and experienced vast acceleration from 2 to 6,7000 RPM out of seemingly nowhere. I had to put the car into M then back to D to solve the issue. While the vehicle accelerated the speed remained steady and I couldn't gain higher mileage. I took it to a transmission expert as my warranty is up, now at 78K. They did an overall diagnostic and replicated the issue I had and found the transmission fluid to be dark.
They recommend to check the potential internal damage and NOT to flush/change the transmission fluid for fear of particle metals. This could cost thousands.

I'm at a loss what to do. I need to drive back home that 1700 miles. Any advice?
