Question about the sail panels. (Aftermarket Tweeter Install)

#1
I've purchased a pair of component speakers for my 2009 CE w/o JBL Stereo.

I plan to mount the tweeters in the sail panel, but I'd rather keep everything more "stock looking". Does anyone know if there is an difference in depth/clearance behind the sail panels of a Corolla that has the factory tweeter ?

Or is the space between the sail panel and door the same depth as with the regular 4-speaker system ?

(I'm considering going to a junk yard to try and find a pair of the ones with the built in speaker grill)

should be the same. They will not make two different doors for same vehicle. All they do is use different trim pieces as to what spec the vehicle is being built. just get some tweeters, get the panels from a wreckers that has the tweeters and bolt them up.

I couldn't find any locally, but I eyeballed them up and figured they'd fit. I went with Kicker components which are known for their shallow mounting.

Here's how they turned out: Passenger: http://i.imgur.com/Unp5iUn.jpg Driver: http://i.imgur.com/x1tfL1n.jpg

I couldn't have placed them much better as there isn't room to go in any other direction on the panel. Used a 1.5" hole saw, then grinded the rest away with a rotary tool. Pretty pleased that I didn't bone the panels :)
