Oil change frequency

#1
I have a 2000 Corolla VE, as basic as they come. Overdue on the oil change by 12K, car runs smoothly and seems lighter on its wheels than before. I have heard Click and Clack brothers 10K intervals or not bother at all. Heard of cars in Germany that never changed it and ran great. At 186K right now and wonder if I should be changing more frequently and with something like 10/30? Thanks for your thoughts

please change your oil as recommended by Toyota. The 1ZZFE engine is all aluminum (top & bottom) so overheating is the worst thing you can do to it. Recommended by Toyota is 5W/30. Most mechanics will tell you to stay consistent with your oil. If nothing is wrong don't change it. A Toyota mechanic no matter how many miles your engine has will only tell you to put whatever Toyota tells you to put, which is 5W/30. As your engine gets higher in miles not only would I follow the Toyota maintenance schedule I would also check your oil as often as possible. I personally check mine every time I fill up. You may not need to change your oil & filter but you may need to top up because older engines will always burn oil faster than normal.
