Good news - just acquired a 2007 Corolla CE with not quite 100k.
Bad news - the seller is not the original owner, and could only provide a single key. At least it is a MASTER.
The first obvious "accessory" purchase for this vehicle will be additional keys. Going to the dealer will be expensive, so I have been researching alternatives. Apparently one can buy a blank key with the necessary chip, have the key cut using the MASTER, and then have the new key programmed to make it functional. The first two steps seem easy enough, but I haven't uncovered any source that has bullet-proof programming instructions (aside from going to a dealer or locksmith). If anyone is knowledgeable about this step, I'd appreciate your help or any online references. If you have a favorite online source for blank keys, thanks for that too.
The vehicle is equipped with power windows and power locks. I am guessing that originally there was a remote. Using the MASTER, I have verified that the security system goes into programming mode, following the steps here:
. This should be indicative that a new remote(s) can be programmed. While I was tempted to see if I could take one of the remotes from my 2005 Tacoma and reprogram it to the Corolla, I decided against such foolishness. Anyone have a favorite source for buying blank remotes for programming?
I have also seen keys that have a remote's functionality incorporated into the key, instead of being a separate fob. Anyone with experience with this style?
Thanks to all who respond.
