All right, here's the deal. My 2010 Corolla LE shows the mileage range left before the gas tank hits empty. I always fill up when the arrow is somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 tank full, and/or when there is around 50 miles left to empty. When I fill up completely full, the mileage range starts back up at 350 or so. A couple of days ago, there was 70 or so miles left in the tank, and it was 1/4 or so full. The next day, I had a job interview, so I figured I could get $10 worth of gas, and fill up at the station with the lowest price (I always pay for the gas by credit card, hence, I look for the station that offers the lowest price that is the same no matter if you pay cash or credit). So I handed $10 bill to the attendant (yes, in NJ you don't pump the gas yourself, go figure) and he put the hose in. After I drove off, I noticed that the range indicator hadn't gone up, even though the arrow went to half-full. But! I noticed something else peculiar. For every 2 miles I drove, the mileage indicator went down one mile. I now have 1/4 of the tank full and the mileage indicator is 44, which means I have around 88 miles left before the tank hits empty. The only way to find out, I guess is to fill up to a full-tank and see if the indicator goes back up 350 or so miles. So my question is: does the quality of the gas affect what numbers show up on the display, or do the numbers only change when the tank is completely full? Thanks
