Hey everyone! I'm Hoonigan, and as of 8/2/2014 (That's August 8th, just so we're clear to those of you who don't use the same date format as the USA), I became the proud owner of a 1994 AE102 Toyota Corolla DX Wagon, who I immediately named 'Wendy'. Here she is:
Currently, I am in the process of trying to get her settled into her new surroundings in Southeastern Pennsylvania. My uncle handed her down to me, having driven her all the way from Princeton Junction in NJ, which is roughly an hour from where I live. I've only owned her for two days thus far, but she is the third in a line of Corollas owned by my family. In the Philippines, my father had a KE (or TE)-chassis Corolla sedan with a 5-speed, and when we moved to the U.S., my brother had an '88 AE95 Corolla wagon (automatic) as his second car after managing to run his Chevrolet Cavalier out of oil (he has since become more car-literate, at least). And now there's me, with 'Wendy', my AE102.
I've come to this forum to see who else owns cars like mine, hoping their familiarity with them will be of use when I have a question and I don't have access to a Haynes Manual. At present, I am trying to prep her for state inspection, which I need to do within the next few days. I know I need to fix her front driver's side turn signal, which doesn't work, which means the driver's side rear signal is throwing a rave every time I signal to turn left. Another problem I intend to address when I have the money is to sort out the driver's side rear quarter-panel, which has two glaring areas where the paint is gone and rusted metal is alarmingly visible. Mechanically, Wendy is sound (sans turn signal issue), but visually, she looks rough for a girl who spent most of her road time getting groceries. I'm the third owner (my uncle was the second, and the previous owner before him was apparently a family), and I intend to get a lot more miles out of Wendy. I look forward to the resources this forum can offer during my first foray into car ownership.
