Hi.
My 2002 Corolla won't start suddenly. I had my car in the shop as my hood flew open and broke my windshield two miles after leaving the shop for state inspection. Car was driveable to shop. Car was started and moved at shop several times. Today I drove it home, to get it ready to sell to Carmax. Stopped by the dumpster in my apartment complex and was cleaning out the trunk of my car. I turned the car off but then turned it on to play a cassette I found when cleaning out, one last time (who still has cassettes? lol). I had the doors open and I guess I think I may have had the car at the point where the battery was on but the car was not started. The car was beeping telling me I had left the key in and car open. I ignored as it was only a few minutes and I knew the battery would be fine.
Well, this car has oil consumption issues as we know so I put oil in it every few weeks-. I hadn't put oil in it before I got it inspected. Usually it needs probably a bottle or two. I was not sure if the Carmax people check your oil levels so I just put half a bottle in just in case without checking the dipstick. It is never ever and I usually never put enough. Closed the hood. And then went to start the car and it would not start. Worse, the sound it makes trying to start sounds like something is not right.
I put in a new battery last October. I thought something funny was going on with the starter earlier this year so when I drove back home out of state in July, I made the family mechanic put in a new starter. He looked at me and sort of said he doesn't think my car needs a started. I told him to put a new one anyway. So it is not the battery and likely not the starter. What could it be? In the link I posted it actually started but then i turned it off to start it again and it was back to this grinding sound.
What could it be?
