Welcome to the Corolla Forum! :)

The Toyota Corolla doesn't have a European engine, but a Japanese engine, so European oil would not be appropriate for a Corolla.

What year is your Corolla?

I firmly believe that AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are the finest motor oils in the world, bar none, (many automotive experts agree). I'm an AMSOIL Dealer so some might think my opinion biased, however if I didn't truly think AMSOIL is the best, I wouldn't even be an AMSOIL Dealer. :) For Corolla Forum members I can get wholesale prices for you with a Preferred Customer membership, with prices that are lower than competing brands of synthetic motor oils. So send me a message with your needs and I will take care of you! :)

Below are some very interesting links I think you might like.

Aren't all motor oils the same? Isn't oil just oil? Hello! Allow me a correction: the model of my Corolla is the only one made in Japan (JTD). All the others are made in UK. Apart from that my Corolla was made in 2005. Another question: I now that a recall was made due to problems with engine oil consuption. As far as I now the problem was solved im 2005. Any one can tell me if my car as the problem fix?

Here in Portugal the AMSOIL is not sold...

For your Corolla, Toyota engineers specify a 5W-30 viscosity. Here is the link to my Online Product Application Guide for your Corolla with all the recommended oil viscosities, quantities, filter part numbers, etc - http://www.amsoil.com/mygarage/vehiclelookup.aspx?i=1&zo=349698

As for oil consumption issues, I personally feel it was caused by engines that run hot, (to reduce emissions), while using a comparatively poor performing petroleum oil. Synthetic oils are much more resistant to the deteriorating affects of engine heat and don't burn off anywhere near as fast as petroleum oils do. Many older Toyota engines had oil consumption issues and serious oil sludge problems inside the engine when using petroleum oils. Now, virtually all new Toyota engines come factory filled with synthetic oil. Problem solved.

My 05 has been running the cheapest 5w-30 conventional that is available. Now at 325,000 mi. Change every 4,000 miles.
However, for higher mileage vehicles, do NOT change from the type of oil it has been running most of its life. I have seen engine cylinder failure very soon after doing that on high-mileage American V8.
