Being your own Corolla mechanic. Why?

I don't understand it. When ever I have suspected something was wrong with one of my cars I would bring it in to a Toyota dealer. And to tell the truth of the last twenty years that has happened no more than twice.

So why are so may people on this website trying to be mechanics? Take your car to a dealership. Even if you Did buy it private. My resent buy was a 2004 Corolla LE that I bought private from a private car dealer. In order to be able to sell any vehicle it must be inspected by a licensed mechanic certified by the Ministry of Transport of Canada. And not many are stupid enough to risk a shoddy test and risk getting caught and loosing their licence. My car had to pass 88 item checks to be road worthy and allowed on the road.
Some of the Corollas I have owned I bought used and some I bought new. One little piece of advice is to stay clear of private deals. Private non Toyota dealers Still have to have the vehicles certified and tested in order to sell them. That is different. But a Joe Blow advertising in the local newspaper IS a good way to get screwed. If that same private Joe Blow is willing to give you the certificate of inspection along with some sort of Car Proof and Lien check then fine. But I will stick to Toyota Dealers. Used Car dealers would be my second choice. And There is No Better place to bring your Corolla if you think something is wrong than a Toyota Dealer. Wake up and spend some money. Or are the Toyota dealers and their mechanics all crooks where you live? Then don't even buy one in the first place. And do NOT hesitate to to report a BAD dealership to Toyota Japan. Yes there are some.
The best used Corolla you will find is at a Toyota dealer. Usually if a Toyota dealer also sells used Toyotas they will usually warranty them as well, so long as they are not too old (more that 5 years) and have under 100,000km on the odometer. But I am talking about Toyota dealerships in Canada.

Let a real Toyota Mechanic diagnose and repair your Corolla. Get it done right. If you are in and out of the garage with a Toyota Corolla then you may as well sell it for scrap or something because Corollas do Not break down. They just don't. If you have continuous problems with a Corolla then it was NOT taken care of and was screwed with many times by a crooked mechanic - down - the - street or you just got screwed.

how so? Ok. I should have said that Corollas do not break down like north american cars. And one incident in twenty+ years with five+ Toyota products is a very big statement if it were a Ford, Chrysler or GM prduct. And this is without exaggeration. Like I tried to say, Let the Pros do it for you. Nothing worse than a decent car all screwed by a wannabe mechanic or the mechanic down the street. That's the truth.

Good opinion! But some are just natural mechanic and would love to do things themselves and be proud of. And sometimes, some dealer mechanics do terrible jobs.

I have had horrible experiences with mechanics, perhaps it's because I'm a woman.. I don't know but I have been doing all my own work on both my Honda and Toyota for some time now minus some help I get from mechanic friends here and there that are able to help me if I get stumped. Dealerships are great for somethings but I'd rather not be raped by their over priced jobs if I know I can do it myself. :) To each their own though!
