A/C question

I have an 06 Corolla s that the a.c. has not been working on for some time. I noticed the compressor does nothing. Should this compress or move inward when active or any other movement when activated or can I manually activate it by hand to see if it's bad?

You need to check the Current.

U checked the current and was able to get a reading, I was also able to get ground from the body of the compressor

Then check the gas pressure. If the gas pressure is very low then the sensor no not allow the compressor to kick in.

I have checked the pressure and know it is the compressor. I was just wondering how the compressor functions, like when it engages should there be a visual difference besides the spinning, like a click sound or the clutch moving in at all? If I'm trying to tell if the entire thing is bad or just the clutch or other parts on it

Well there is a clutch in the middle of the pulley. if it is stationary that means that the clutch is not engaged.

Other way to check if the clutch is engaging place a screw driver or any metal thing in the pulley it will magnetize. Or let someone
switch on & off the a/c button and watch the end of pulley its moving in & out.
