5th Gear Stiff

[can i fix it]

hi all i got a 1999 1.6 yesterday nice car but when you try to go from 5th to 4th it's very stiff any one have a clue, my mate was going to scrap it so i had it would like it to live, hate cars going to the scrap yard when there is no need even if it needs a new gearbox i will do it thanks for your help

Possibly low gear lube level, or binding linkage, worn transmission parts, etc. Could be all manner of possibilities. Impossible to diagnose over the Internet.
