2010 Toyota Corolla A/C got a mind of its own

Hi there,

I currently reside in the Middle East, and recently purchased a 2010 Toyota Corolla. It was in real immaculate condition and only had about 20k km done on it.
However a few months back, I noticed that the A/C would stop cooling, and would only start cooling after a 5 - 10 min break. Now being in the Middle East has its downfall since it turns into an oven during the day, so i had it checked at a local garage who normally takes care of my Nissan Sunny, and he mentioned that there might be a sensor issue and the whole compressor needs to be changed since it clutch-less and is now a whole unit by itself, I do not have that kind of money to dish out on a new compressor and would not settle for a second hand nor an unbranded piece.
It's really strange that it keeps doing this, and off lately as soon as i start the car and have it running for about 3-5 min and then switch on the A/C, it would just not cool unless i drive it around for another 5-10 min, which is a pity since the cooling only lasts for another 15 - 20 min till it shuts off again.
I cant seem to wrap my finger or head around the problem and i know there has to be a solution somewhere. I even had the gas checked, as well as checked for any leaks but nothing, everything seems to be perfect.
I also noticed that while on idle, the RPM dial would sink and elevate every now and then when the A/C is running.
This is all the info i can give for now, would really appreciate some help in this matter

Cheers

when it "shuts off" are you stopped? Also when it "Shuts off" does it blow cool air or warm air? Where I'm at it is not nearly as hot as the middle east but the when the vehicle is not moving the air con will blow cool air and once the car starts to move again it blows colder air. This is normal and is done to reduce the draw on the engine while idling. If in your case when it "shuts off" it blows warm outside air then there maybe a problem.

Calvin, I am also in middle east (UAE) and the same issue I am facing. I am not convinced by the mechanics that we need to replace the compressor.

My AC works when the car is moving and stops when I stop at signals. I think the problem is with the condenser.
