Guess, he is still working on it. I just changed my tensioner (PITA to unbolt) but it still has that pinging chattering noise when I apply light throttle btw 50-70mph. It would stop if i have a heavier foot on the throttle....weird???

I didn't see it mentioned here, but timing chain tensioner? I know with my car if I accel lightly and manitina it, it pings/chatters, however if I lay on the gas, it doesn't do it (creating tension lost by the tensioner) I am changing mine tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes

Would timing chain lack of tension possibly due to a bad tensioner contribute to oil consumption

also, check to see about your tire size. I kow for me I had beefier tires, so it underestimated my speed (and miles on the clock)

Exactly my point, it won't. That is probably true for this case, conventional oil has been run in cars for many, many years. And these cars have had 200, 300, even 500k miles with no problems, so conventional oil is certainly not bad (perhaps its not the case on the newer cars)

I know what you're saying, but Amsoil is great, I agree, but it's not going to fix everything. I have it in my car now and I am glad, but it's not going to make things smoother. There have been cars that ran on conventional oil for and hundreds of thousands of miles and never had any...

+1 Thats what an old school mechanic told me once. He said you know it is a very good oil of when you run your fingers with the oil between them, it doesn't wash away

well thats the thing, its not running quieter, just the opposite, ha ha Yes next oil change, already coming to 4k miles ill just change to 10 w 40 and see what happens

I hope it does love me now, because I am hearing more valvetrain noise. I don't think the 5w30 is thick enough for the motor, it is approaching 164000 now (miles)

yeah the tensioner is like 20 bux on rockauto. Just have to identify where to find it and how to take it off properly.
